Two longtime Murray Middle School science teachers retired at the end of the school year.

Mary Crowley was the first female science teacher in Murray’s history. She taught at the school for 31 years. Originally from Milwaukee, Crowley earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in education at the University of Minnesota. She was instrumental in creating a connection between Murray and the U’s Science for All Outreach Program. Crowley has two sons attending college in the Twin Cities. She is looking forward to a retirement filled with travel, including trips already planned to Africa and Thailand.

Erin Dooley is retiring with 27 years of service. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, a licensure certificate from Augsburg University, a master’s degree in education from Bemidji State University and an administrative license from Hamline University. During her tenure with St. Paul Public Schools, she served in an administrative role, as a union steward and contract negotiator for SPFE, and as a restorative practices coach. She has also been a National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) advisor for many years. Both of Dooley’s sons attended Murray. She, too, is planning to travel in retirement, starting with a Route 66 road trip this fall, followed by a visit to the Galápagos Islands.
