Pastor Judith Ann (Kurth) Hazen, 84, died May 6.
She was born in 1942 to Raymond and Lillian (née Heidelberger) Kurth in Dumont, Minn. She grew up in Minneapolis with four younger brothers. In 1963 she married Jeff Hazen; they divorced in 1984.
Judith earned degrees from Macalester College; Minnesota State University, Mankato; University of St. Thomas; and Luther Seminary. She also attended Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, Tennessee earning ABT status.
Judith worked at St. John’s Hospital for 10 years, first as a social worker and later as an administrator. She was ordained in 1996 and served five Lutheran congregations before retiring in 2008.
She is survived by her children, Brett and Angela; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 29 at Como Park Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to Planned Parenthood or Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness.
