Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Swanson, 82, died Oct. 28, 2025. She was born in Millville, New Jersey, March 3, 1943, and grew up in nearby Vineland. She moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, and later moved with her family to Minnesota, putting down roots in St. Anthony Park.
Betty attended Glassboro State College, received her teaching license and later earned her master’s degree in library technology. Betty primarily taught at North Star Elementary in Minneapolis, but spent part of her career in the St. Paul Public School District.
Betty was a woman of heart who made positive impacts in her community. She generously volunteered at many schools including SAP Elementary, Murray, Central High School and other various organizations including SAP United Church of Christ, Scouts and community fundraisers.
Betty loved serving others. She spent much of her time baking and delighted in sharing her bread, pies and cookies with loved ones. Betty will be remembered for her abundant energy and her warm ways.
In retirement, Betty continued to work at the Bibelot gift shop, where she stayed connected with friends and neighbors in St. Anthony Park. Later in life, Betty moved to Episcopal Homes to be near a close friend.
Betty’s survivors include son, Eric Svensson (Mariella), daughter, Christina Sheu (Ted), four grandchildren and siblings Patricia Brashears and Robert Lawther.
Betty’s celebration of life will be held at a later date.
