Due to a delay in repairs and maintenance, the re-opening of the St. Anthony Park Library building at 2245 Como Ave. is not expected until early August.
Previously, officials hoped to see it re-open by mid-July.

Rita La Doux, chairperson of the SAP Branch Library Association board, said the library repair work must be carefully handled because the building is on the National Historic Register. “Therefore, any work on the building must be in compliance with historic preservation standards,” La Doux said.
For example, the building’s outdoor hand railing, or balustrade, was in need of repairs due to years of damage from wear and tear and winter salt, she noted. “The balustrade was showing rust at the base.”
Since the library maintenance and repair project began in early April, a construction crew has been working on the balustrade for weeks, La Doux said. “They have stripped it, sanded it down, and are putting on fiberglass. This is very detailed, careful work that takes time and patience.”
In a recent news release this spring, library officials said the repairs are necessary to ensure the building is safely accessible to all patrons.
“The lower-level entrance does not meet accessibility standards due to the steep slope of walkway,” said library spokeswoman Rebecca Ryan. “Additionally, water collects at the base of the walkway near the building and, at times, enters the building’s lower level. The stairs to the main entrance need routine maintenance and repair.”
Money for the project is being provided by the City of St. Paul’s Capital Improvement Budget.
