The popular St. Anthony Park History and Architecture series continues on Nov. 12 with a presentation on the old manufacturing district near Raymond and Hampden avenues.
Scheduled presenter is neighborhood resident Kristin Anderson, professor emerita in the Art & Design Department at Augsburg University. She will give her talk at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church, 2323 Como Ave.
In this latest monthly history talk, Anderson will introduce audience members to the old manufacturing district near Raymond and Hampden avenues. Still used as industrial space today, the area was an original part of the 1885 plans for St. Anthony Park.
Companies were attracted to the site because of its excellent railroad connections, and some tracks can still be seen running through this “suburban manufacturing park,” as it was originally called. Although many of the historic buildings are lost, a surprising number of structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries still stand in this area.
In addition to the in-person session at the church, the talk can also be seen live online, with a recording available for one week after the session. Use the SAPLC youtube channel at Bit.ly/Sap-history.
You can also get to the church’s youtube channel by clicking through from Saplc.org to the Worship link, and then to the livestream link.
