Theater department performs ‘The Late Bus’
The Como Theater Department recently presented four performances of “The Late Bus” for the annual spring play.
In the spirit of the classic teen film “The Breakfast Club,” the play follows high school students as they reveal their adolescent challenges through conversations at a bus stop.
A committed cast of both veteran actors and newcomers shined with their well-rehearsed dialogue and brought the dramedy to life. A dedicated crew constructed a set design that was functional and enhanced the performance, along with effective lighting and sound.
The play was directed by Como teacher Michael Youle and Como choir director Huy Tran, assisted by student director Charlie Ernst.
Stage managers were Lila Kopp and Clara Dunne. Amelia Larsen was costume lead, Linnea Common was light lead, and Ollie Grotzke was sound lead. Additional tech crew were: Maja Johnson, Laura King, Sofia Mortensen, Sarah Paw, Julia Rentmeester, Scout Taylor-Marino and Helena Towle.
The cast in order of appearance featured Yasmina Banat, Tylena Davis, Zachary Prince, Nayomi Gates, Ethan Imbertson, Mitch Pelzer, Sofia Gonzalez, Amethyst Gibson, Danaya Evans, Vance Ethan, Jamya Williams, Kiziah Davis, Ayesha Syeda, William Fabel, Xzarin Beaulieu and Nijia Wheeler.
Advanced Placement Exams
The national AP exams will be administered from May 4 to 15 to hundreds of Como students who have completed coursework in their Advanced Placement classes.
Como High School offers 14 different AP courses, several accelerated pre-AP courses, as well as five dual enrollment courses in partnership with the University of Minnesota or St. Paul College.
Spring traditions
Milestone events on the spring academic and social calendar include prom on May 15 at the Wabasha Caves, Senior Honors Night at school on May 21 and graduation on June 3 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
The senior class and the Como Park Booster Club are bringing back the Senior All-Night Graduation Party at school following the ceremony. It has been absent since COVID, but student leaders advocated for a return of the tradition.
