The new year kicks off with familiar favorites and ongoing programs on the January calendar at the St. Anthony Park Library, 2245 Como Ave. Unless specified, registration is not necessary.
Holiday closings.
All St. Paul Public Library buildings will close at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and be closed all day on Thursday, Jan. 1, in recognition of the New Year’s Day holiday.
The library will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
Shake your sillies out! playtime
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 in the lower level auditorium. This early childhood playtime for children ages 5 and under with their caregivers includes stories and movement to foster a love for books and make new friends. Adults must remain with their children for the entire session.
Family story time
10:15 to 10:45 and from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27. The same story time is presented twice each Tuesday in the library’s auditorium. Stories, songs, rhymes and puppets for children ages birth to 5, their caregivers and siblings.
Handiwork @your library
10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Jan. 8. Knit, crochet, embroider and socialize with your neighbors. All ages welcome. Bring your own supplies. This program is co-hosted by SPPL and the St Anthony Park Area Seniors.
SAPBLA Forum
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8. The St. Anthony Park Branch Library Association’s monthly community forum is co-hosted with the St. Anthony Park Library. See the library association’s website for the January topic: sapbla.org.
Literary Bridges
10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17. A reading series that meets a few times a year and is focused on bridging and strengthening connections between people. Authors read from completed work or preÂsent their work at various stages of their writing process.
Mystery Loves Company Book Club
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Members read their personal choice of a book under the chosen monthly theme and meet to talk about their choices. January’s theme: Favorite mystery read in 2025. February: Snowy settings.
St. Anthony Park Library Book Club
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. Join us in the lower-level auditorium for conversation and refreshments. Call the library at 651-642-0411 to find out the January book selection.
Arts Roseville: James D. Autio
11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Roseville Library, 2180 North Hamline Ave. N., Roseville. Guest artist talk by poet and visual artist James D. Autio. An enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, Autio often incorporates animal clan symbols or Ojibwe spiritual symbols in his art. No registration required.
