District 12 expands task force to include Luther Seminary Upper Campus Development
The St. Anthony Park Community Council is expanding its Luther Campus Task Force to address the future of both the Lower Campus at 1501 Fulham St. and the Upper Campus property at 2481 Como Ave.
This expansion follows the news that Luther Seminary is selling the Upper Campus, making it available for potential development in 2027-28.
As of this issue of the Bugle, Lifestyle Communities has a purchase agreement for the Lower Campus, with development expected to begin in 2026-27.
With the Upper Campus now being put up for sale, District 12 is adjusting the task force’s mission to ensure both properties are handled with community input. The community council wants to ensure that neighbors have a say in planning how these spaces evolve.
“We want to ensure that as development moves forward, the voices of St. Anthony Park residents are heard and considered,” said Kenny Niemeyer, co-chairman of District 12 Land Use Committee. “This is an opportunity for us to guide the redevelopment process and make sure it reflects the needs and desires of the neighborhood.”

Coming: St. Anthony Park Community Garage Sale
The District 12 Community Garage Sale is just around the corner, scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Sept. 5 and 6. Neighbors are invited to register early for what promises to be a great weekend of treasure hunting and community fun.
In 2024, there were 15 garage sale locations across the neighborhood, and District 12 hopes to make this year’s sale even bigger. The sale will span multiple locations throughout St. Anthony Park, offering everything from household items and furniture to vintage finds and collectibles.
“We love seeing how this event brings people together,” said John Maurer, District 12 treasurer and Equity Committee member. “It’s not just about buying and selling — it’s about creating connections within the neighborhood.”

On May 24, neighbors gathered for the first Community Activity Day of the summer at Westgate Commons Park—a new initiative supported by the University of Minnesota’s Good Neighbor Fund and organized by the St. Anthony Park Community Council. The day began with planting flowers and plants around the park, followed by an afternoon of safe cycling activities focused on our younger neighbors.
