Second Thursday Forum: A Sea Change for Lake Superior: The Warming of the World’s Largest Lake. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Famously frigid Lake Superior, which holds 10% of the world’s fresh water, is now among the fastest warming lakes in the world. Guest John Shepard, “A Sea Change” producer and writer, will share insights on the documentary and present ways to help keep Lake Superior cold, clear and clean.
The Center for Global Environmental Education at Hamline University produced the documentary, which explores the implications of this change and how citizens can help sustain the earth’s freshwater resources. The project is a co-production with PBS North. View the one-hour documentary and find details at https://cgee.hamline.edu/current-initiatives/sea-change-for-lake-superior.
Sponsored by the St. Anthony Park Branch Library Association, the Second Thursday Forum is a monthly program that focuses on topics of interest in the community.
Changing Times Book Group meets Nov. 23
“A magnificent debut novel that’s both an important cautionary tale and a deeply compelling family story. Although set in a stunningly well-imagined future in the aftermath of a climate apocalypse, The Great Transition is electrifyingly relevant.”
That’s how local author William Kent Krueger described this novel by Nick Fuller Googins, the next pick for the Changing Times Book Group. While published as a young-adult novel, The Great Transition speaks to all ages.
All are welcome to the discussion from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Nov. 23 at the St. Anthony Park Branch Library, 2245 Como Avenue. Refreshments served; no registration needed.
Hosted by the St. Paul Public Library and Transition Town – All Saint Anthony Park. Details at TransitionASAP.org/changing-times-book-group.
